Journey report by BestHike editor Rick McCharles
Karura Forest is a wonderful inexperienced house in Nairobi, Kenya. It’s the second largest city forest on this planet after the Tijuca Forest in Rio de Janeiro.
My hostel beneficial I hike there.
The 4.3 km Sykes’ Monkey Path Loop is very rated (4.8 stars) for its mixture of surroundings, caves, and rivers.

The primary entrance for simple entry to the Waterfall and River Café is Gate A on Kiube Highway. Safety appeared glorious to me. There are guards posted in any respect gates.
Trails are effectively maintained. Good bridges. Loads of benches and picnic tables.

Leisure amenities are included.

But it’s an enormous park with loads of house to get away from different individuals, must you select.

I used to be there in the beginning of the wet season. First large rain of 2026 left some trails flooded.

Entry Charges (As of 2025/2026): Non-resident adults KES 850, youngsters KES 450; Kenyan residents pay considerably decrease charges (approx. KES 100-200).
Guidelines: Plastic bottles are prohibited; carry a reusable bottle. No fires, and strict, eco-friendly insurance policies are enforced.
I used to be stunned to be taught that this was as soon as a really harmful park, stuffed with criminals.
