Restoring Trails on the Oregon Coast

This summer season, a crew of American Mountain climbing Society volunteers traveled to the scenic city of Newport, Oregon, to revive the Salal Hill Path. With the Pacific Ocean as their backdrop, the group spent their days widening and reshaping tread, inserting rock, and putting in geotextiles to make sure the half-mile path stays protected and gratifying for guests. The work was demanding, however as one volunteer put it, “Exhausting however satisfying.”

The situation rapidly turned a spotlight of the journey. Volunteers noticed seabirds, explored seashores, and have been even handled to a personal tour of the Yaquina Lighthouse, which is often closed to the general public. On breaks, they loved excursions organized by park workers and wandered by means of the coastal city of Newport, recognized for its mixture of historical past, seafood, and ocean views.
