Do you take note of the wind?

I listen once I’m within the discipline monitoring wildlife.  However primarily I exploit wind path.  Stalking an animal from downwind helps me method with out it scenting me.   

Once you’re outside, with the ability to estimate wind velocity can come in useful.  Some issues to consider:

 

Sound carries higher downwind. 
Wind creates ambient noise that may display screen your motion
Wind can disguise the actions of animals or folks round you
You should utilize wind velocity and path to assist predict a coming storm

 

In his e-book Monitoring People, David Diaz explains easy methods to observe the forest round you to foretell wind velocity.  He examines how this data might help tactical monitoring.  That is the primary dialogue of wind velocity I’ve seen in a monitoring e-book.  And it intrigued me.

Are his observations right?  Do they maintain up for my space of California?  Can I develop my very own metrics for predicting wind velocity?
