Tucked away within the coronary heart of Cuyahoga Valley Nationwide Park, the Tree Farm Path gives a peaceable escape into Ohio’s wealthy woodland surroundings. The two.8-mile loop winds via fields of Christmas bushes, open meadows, pine and hardwood forest, and beside the picturesque Horseshoe Pond, making it a favourite for hikers in search of solitude, seasonal coloration, or a brief household journey. Whether or not you’re a seasoned native or a first-time customer, the Tree Farm Path delivers a scenic slice of the park’s various panorama in a brief, rewarding hike.

Do not miss dawn at Horseshoe Pond or close to the Christmas tree fields

Mountain climbing the Tree Farm Path

Heather and I arrive on the Horseshoe Pond Trailhead at 5:45 AM, fifteen minutes earlier than dawn. Realizing how muddy issues get after an excellent rain, I lace up my boots in lieu of my path runners and we head out. We comply with the paved path and picket boardwalk right down to Horseshoe Pond, circling it slowly to catch the primary mild of day.

It’s a relaxed, muggy morning, and we’ve the place completely to ourselves. An amazing blue heron perches on a rock by the pond as we reminisce about our second date—a winter hike on this very path.

From there, we start our hike alongside the pond’s jap edge earlier than stepping right into a dense forest of blended hardwoods and pine. Inside just a few hundred yards, the path narrows right into a grassy, tunnel-like hall that attracts us ahead beneath the cover.

A small clearing opens up alongside this stretch, revealing rows of Christmas bushes nonetheless rising close by. We pause to soak up the dawn—quiet and golden—earlier than transferring on.

Quickly the path shifts south, and thru breaks within the bushes, we glimpse huge fields of evergreens stretching into the gap. A whole lot, possibly hundreds, of Christmas bushes blanket the panorama to our left. The fields belong to Heritage Farms, an Ohio Century Farm that has been within the Bishop-Haramis household for over 175 years.

Quickly after, we re-enter the forest, the morning mild filtering via leaves and branches.

As we stroll, we discuss—about dwelling collectively within the not too distant future, about touring throughout the nation, and our favourite trails within the valley. The path winds via alternating stretches of pine forest and leafy inexperienced tunnels earlier than arriving at considered one of my favourite spots: a protracted hall of towering pines, straight and majestic. Strolling via them with Heather makes it all of the extra excellent.

From there, we proceed via a sequence of inexperienced tunnels, each muddier than the final. True to kind, the Tree Farm Path lives as much as its popularity for being a muddy mess with no good stretch of dry climate.

Because the loop nears its finish, we cross one other stand of towering pines, extra grassy corridors, and at last emerge onto a slender grime path that leads us again to the place we began.

It’s my tenth or twelfth time mountain climbing the Tree Farm Path—however the first outdoors of winter. Seeing this a part of the valley burst to life in vibrant summer season greens was a complete new expertise, and sharing it with Heather made it even higher. We’ll positively be again—the solitude and people quiet early morning views are greater than value it.
