Journey report by BestHike editor Rick McCharles.
We signed on for a climb of Rumiñahui Central with Secret Backyard Cotopaxi.
Spoiler. Lexi, Tahel, and myself all made it to 4,643m. Tremendous glad right here. Our information was terrific.
Rumiñahui is taken into account a lead-up to Cotopaxi (5,897m) after which Chimborazo (6,263–6,310m).
Rumiñahui is a dormant, closely eroded stratovolcano 4,721 metres (15,489 ft) above sea stage.
Located within the Andes mountains 40 km south of Quito, Ecuador, it’s overshadowed by its well-known neighbour Cotopaxi.
This mountain is in Cotopaxi Nationwide Park, so we drove immediately in the direction of the large peak. Glorious climate early morning.

We parked at Lake Limpiopungo at roughly 3,850m. Many alternative species of birds alight right here.

Headed to that central peak.

We noticed rabbits originally whereas climbing up by means of paramo.

And condors floating within the updraft.
On the way in which down, our information noticed wild horses beneath.
We had wonderful views of Cotopaxi.

I name it a scramble as a result of this mountain is kind of jagged. We used our palms fairly a bit on the prime. Tahel put spare socks on her palms. I used a buff for cover. None of us had opted to hold gloves.

Verify this rugged mountaineer.

Prepared for Kilimanjaro, arising subsequent.

Essentially the most stunning second of the journey was having a caracara land on the summit simply as we had been celebrating.

A bit sluggish attending to the highest, we really ran down a lot of the mountain as Tahel needed to catch a bus again to Quito at 3pm.
We stopped to speak with this group at 1pm. Simply beginning up.

Effectively … that they had horrific exhausting rainfall within the afternoon. You actually need to end your climbing by 2pm within the Andes.
