Journey report by BestHike editor Rick McCharles
MacRitchie Reservoir is Singapore‘s oldest. One of many island nation’s hottest parks.
Spotlight for me was seeing 2 of the world’s smallest hoofed animals, the lesser mouse deer.
Not anticipating these little guys — about 45 cm (18 inches) and a couple of kg (4.4 lb) — my first thought seeing them within the foliage is that they had been GIANT RATS. 😀
You may hike a mess of trails at MacRitchie ➙ or go kayak / canoeing.

I attempted the MacRitchie Reservoir and TreeTop Stroll Loop.
12.2km
3–3.5hr
281m elevation achieve
Zig Zag bridge
Performing Arts Pavilion
Sadly, I arrived on the TreeTop Stroll about quarter-hour after it closed — and, no, you can’t sneak throughout when locked up. 😀

I needed to backtrack a bit. Then proceed to the subsequent landmark, Jelutong Tower.

I’m discovering the flat jungle walks in Singapore largely provide views of … jungle.
The tower lastly gave me an opportunity to rise up excessive and see the encircling vista.

An enormous shock is to see so few bugs and spiders in October. Good.
After a few months in S.E. Asia, I’m effectively used to macaques. You see them many occasions on this hike. However most on the Singapore Island Nation Membership.

Considerably marshy in locations, this park has plenty of top quality boardwalk.

I used to be on boardwalk as darkness fell. Beautiful over the water.

I shortened the loop considerably as a result of it obtained very darkish on slim boardwalks.
As a result of I used to be nonetheless within the metropolis, I caught a close-by bus and was shortly again to my hostel.
MacRitchie is a terrific city hike.
