A spotlight of any safari in Africa is watching these mild giants.
The African elephant is the world’s largest land mammal.
Grownup savanna bulls can stand as much as 4 meters (13 toes) tall and weigh over 6,000 kg (13,000 lbs).
Their massive, fan-like ears are famously formed just like the African continent. They use them to radiate extra physique warmth.
I studied them first in Addo Elephant Nationwide Park, South Africa in 2023.
They will stay as much as 70 years.
I noticed much more elephants on my 5 Days, 4 Nights Tenting safari in Tanzania 2026.
They devour as much as 150–300 kg (330–660 lbs) of vegetation day by day, together with grasses, bark, and fruit.
Most memorable was watching elephants give themselves a mud bathtub.
Round 90% of African elephants have been worn out prior to now century – largely because of the ivory commerce – leaving an estimated 415,000 wild elephants alive at present.
One ranger I spoke with in Tanzania instructed me they now not have any downside with poachers in his Nationwide Park.
